KANARS Whiskey Glasses: 9 Stand Out Features

You can’t go wrong with any of the KANARS whiskey glasses. Unless, of course, you fill them with something other than whiskey. We’ll look at each of the designs individually, but first, here are nine stand out features that all the designs share, which make them great glasses to drink whiskey from.

1. They Have Thick Walls and a Heavy Base

KANARS whiskey glasses are all large, traditional style, old-fashioned tumblers with a wide opening for ice. They’re not tulip-shaped, nosing glasses for accumulating the aromas, but rocks glasses for adding ice cubes to calm the burn of the alcohol and bring out numerous changes in the taste of your whiskey as the ice cubes melt and the added water opens up new and more subtle flavors.

This means you won’t want the heat from your hand warming your chilled drink or melting the ice cubes faster than you expect causing the whiskey to become diluted. The thick walls and heavy base of these whiskey glasses ensures that they will retain the desired temperature of your drink for longer.

Thick walls also mean that these glasses are great for making whiskey cocktails as they are sturdy enough for you to muddle the ingredients against the side of the glass.

The thick walls and heavy base design make these glasses well balanced and comfortable in your hand and you feel that you’re holding something of real weight and substance.

2. They’re Strong, Durable and Resistant to Breakage

KANARS whiskey glasses are produced via the platinum glass making process which eliminates any impurities making them stronger, more durable and much more resistant to breakage than … well glasses made without using the platinum glass making process.

Strength and durability are a must when it comes to whiskey glasses, because if you’re anything like me, you’ll be using them on a consistent and regular basis. We’re not talking about buying fancy china, that remains stored on the top shelf of the items-for-occasional-use-cupboard and only taken out when the in-laws come round once every six months.

Don’t be jealous.

3. They’re Made From Lead Free Crystal

Many people like to avoid lead crystal. This is despite the fact that the whiskey probably won’t be in the glass long enough for the lead to leach into it, and if it has been standing in the glass for a few hours, the quantity of lead that leaches into the whiskey is less than the quantity of lead consumed daily in an ordinary diet. They argue that no amount of lead is safe for consumption.

With KANARS whiskey glasses you don’t have to worry about lead poisoning at all as they’re made from lead-free crystal. You just have to worry about the quality of the whiskey your drinking.

4. They’re Made From Ultra-Clarity Crystal

Being lead free may mean that these glasses won’t sparkle quite as much as lead crystal whiskey glasses (as it’s lead which increases the glass’s index of refraction and thereby giving it a greater sparkle) but they will have the same degree of clarity and brilliance, so that you can admire the color and texture of your whiskey before you admire its taste.

5. They’re Perfect for Engraving

Regardless of the method used, KANARS whiskey glasses are ideal for engraving, whether as a gift for others or … yes as a gift for yourself.

The platinum glass making process and lack of lead makes these glasses harder and heavier than they would otherwise be. If the engraving is done mechanically, this prevents the wheel from slipping and makes it easier to engrave extremely fine detail.

If the engraving is done by laser, being lead-free means that even though the surface heats up as the laser blasts away the glass particles, there will be less heat than with lead crystal (as lead retains heat) so there’s less risk of the crystal chipping, flaking or breaking. It also means the glasses can cool down adequately after being heated so the markings are less likely to expand and produce a distorted look.

6. They’re Dishwasher Safe

Being lead-free crystal and therefore not porous, KANARS whiskey glasses are all dishwasher safe and won’t absorb any chemical aromas or corrode.

On the other hand, this is one feature that you may not want to take advantage of. There are those who despite having dishwasher safe whiskey glasses, wouldn’t dream of anything less than handwashing such precious items.

Indeed, KANARS whiskey glasses despite being dishwasher safe, have a handwash recommendation which is completely understandable. After all, we are talking about crystal whiskey glasses which need a little more individual attention than other items which are stronger or less important and give you less cause for concern when you relinquish your control over them to the dishwasher.

7. They Come in a Matching Whiskey Glasses and Decanter Set

Most of the designs come both as a set of four or six glasses and in a matching KANARS whiskey glasses and decanter set.

Because there’s nothing more annoying than drinking from a beautiful whiskey glass but having to use an equally beautiful though non-matching decanter to pour your whiskey from. I mean there is crime and poverty. And the lack of world peace. But you get the point.

Whiskey decanters don’t serve any whiskey enhancing function, but an elegant and stylish whiskey storage container does have an air of … well elegance and style, especially if they match beautifully designed glasses.

Which brings us neatly to the next point.

8. They’re Beautifully Designed

The above features are all totally irrelevant if you don’t like the basic look of the glasses. You can have the strongest, the most durable, impossible to break, temperature retaining, lead repelling, ultra-clarity, super safe for the dishwasher crystal whiskey glasses in the world, but if you don’t find them aesthetically pleasing, you’ll prefer to drink your whiskey straight from the bottle.

Fortunately, KANARS whiskey glasses are all beautifully designed while being completely affordable – especially when you remember the price of the liquid you’ll be filling it with. You’ll love using these glasses to drink your whiskey from and having them as a gorgeous showpiece on your … place-for-showpiece-items.

9. They Come in a Unique Package

KANARS whiskey glasses are packaged in a unique and elegant box with polyethylene foam or a sponge cushion to protect the glasses. It’s a stylish gift box and would therefore make a great present for anyone who likes whiskey glasses … or stylish gift boxes.

And now let’s take an individual look at each of the designs.

There is also a decanter set with four 10oz glasses and a 27oz decanter. The twist design also looks great on the larger decanter that is topped with a large and tall stopper.

These are big and hefty oversized glasses with an 11oz capacity for oversized ice cubes or whiskey stones and an oversized amount of whiskey. Despite this they are easy to hold as their modern design has unique grooves that help you retain your grip on the glasses, though they are not necessarily for those with smaller hands. They come in a set of four glasses.

There is also a decanter set with four 11oz glasses and a 28oz decanter. This is a wider decanter than others, to match the oversize design of the glasses. The decanter has the same unique grooves as the glasses and so does the stopper making it easy to grasp and remove from the decanter.

Like the KANARS old fashioned whiskey glasses these whiskey glasses have a diamond-like detailing cut into the glass but they are rounder both at the bottom and in the centre where they arc inwards. This is not only great as a design, but it also makes these glasses easier to grasp. They come in a set of four 10oz glasses.

There is also a decanter set with six – that’s right, it’s not a typo – 10oz glasses and a 20oz decanter. The decanter is wide and round at the bottom with a long neck, which echoes the inward arc theme.

This is a five-piece set with four 10oz glasses and an 18oz decanter. The glasses and decanter have the opposite design to each other. The glasses are smaller at the bottom and sweep up and outwards to a wider rim. This means the glasses are easy to grasp while the flow of whiskey onto your tongue will be very broad allowing you to taste more in one sip.

On the other hand, the decanter is thinner towards the top and sweeps downwards to a wider base. This makes sense for reasons of stability and since you’re not supposed to drink from it directly (although I don’t know where the person who told me off got that rule from), a wide-rimmed decanter is unnecessary.

KANARS Oval Whiskey Glasses

These are a set of two or four 10oz whiskey glasses with a unique oval shape – although the bottom of the glasses has a not-a-million-miles-away-from-oval, rhombus shape. The oval shape together with the grooves in the glasses means that they are very easy to grip even if you have small hands. But you will only be able to drink out of the long sides of the glasses if you want to ensure you don’t spill any of your whiskey.

Differences Between the Designs

While all KANARS whiskey glasses have nine stand out features including but not limited to strength and durability, being lead free ultra-clarity crystal and dishwasher safe, able to retain the temperature of your drink and beautifully designed, there are differences between them.

Some glasses have a thicker base and are even better at retaining the temperature of your drink, while others have a wider rim for a broader flow of whiskey onto your tongue to taste more in one sip or a shape that makes it easier for you to hold the glass in your hand. Some designs have the classic round shape and even classic-ier diamond and wedge cut, while others have a more modern look with a square, oval or even twisted shape.

You can’t go wrong with a KANARS whiskey glass. Unless, of course, you fill it with something other than whiskey.

Yes, I know I already said that, but I thought it was so important that I ought to mention it twice.
